Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes announced that her office has filed expert testimony with the Arizona Corporation Commission challenging a proposed electricity rate increase from Arizona Public Service.
According to the filing, the utility’s requested rate hike is far higher than necessary to maintain reliable service and a strong financial position. The Attorney General’s analysis argues that customers are being asked to pay profits for shareholders that exceed what the company actually needs to operate and attract investment.
“Our expert analysis shows customers are being asked to pay far more than necessary,” Mayes said. “APS can maintain reliable service and remain financially strong while charging customers significantly less.”
